WRAP Poetry Weekend in Beechworth

Frank recently took part in a writer's weekend, WRAP, and had a great time reading some of his favourite poems upstairs at The Beechworth Bakery...

As you can see, he even managed to get his photo in the Border Mail!  Here's the text:

A pint, a party pie and a poem, please

By Anthony Bunn

Poetry will be mixed with pints and party pies as Beechworth celebrates writing this weekend.

The first Writers, Readers and Poets' Weekend will begin this morning with readings on the steps of the Beechworth post office.

There will also be poetry recitals in the Beechworth Bakery and Tanswell's Hotel.

The weekend has been arranged by the Beechworth Arts Council.

Among those appearing will be Stanley poet Frank Prem who began creating verse in school because it was easier than "four pages of writing" in English classes.

"It's wonderful for people who are a long way away from the poetry scene to get access to folks who are so significant," Mr Prem said.

Guests will include Professor Kevin Brophy, head of creative writing at Melbourne University, Walkley Award-winning journalist Ken Haley and Wangaratta-raised surgeon Professor Paddy Dewan, who recently published a book of children's poetry.
